Sharon Schaffner

Sharon Schaffner has been a metal smith for over thirty years.  Travel and cultural influences are notable in the figurative approach of Schaffner’s work.  In her one-of-a-kind "Faces" we see the many different cultural features that have triggered Schaffner’s fascination with the human face.

Schaffner has taught in Belize and curated and participated in international jewelry exhibitions in Spain and Japan.  Her figurative jewelry incorporates precious and non-precious stones as a contrast to sterling silver’s basic shape and texture.

Sharon tells us that no element of her jewelry is there by chance.  “Today I find myself working with metal directly, allowing the material a look of its own, while achieving a greater spontaneity of form. I am continuously using and experimenting with enamels as a source of color and expression. My fascination with the contrast of textures and shapes is obtained by using unique stones, both precious and non-precious. I am guided by a sense of design that is, above all, intuitive."
